| All orthodontic patients receive retainers after braces have been removed to retain the position of the teeth. The tissues around the teeth have "memory", and if retainers are not worn, they will return to their original position. Retainers will be checked periodically by Dr. Girgis during the post treatment time. Retainers are a lifelong commitment after active treatment has ended. Dr. Girgis recommends wearing them at "home time" and through the night when sleeping when braces are first removed (unless otherwise specified). Over time, this can be altered to just at night when sleeping (under the direction of Dr. Girgis). |
